The hard back is nice, cool cover. The introduction is a nice touch to this book, good pictures. Well written and translations are very clear, not hard to read or interpret at all. Its a compilation of many books of the dead due to books of the dead being individualized spell books for each individual, each utilizing different spells in said afterlife. I would hold this book in that regards as a spell book, but a book of spells for when you are dead as you are meant to be buried (and mummified) with your individualized book of the dead so the spells than serve you when you awaken in the afterlife in death. The only philosophical insight to the Egyptian Mysteries school of thought is in the intro of the book by the museum curator, which is some ten or so pages. This would make a good gift for a metal head lol.
This book with its fabulous illustrations and translated text is by far the very best work I have collected, The price I must say was a big break for me, This book is worth 3 or 4 times the price even though there were some small damage to the bottom cover on the corners, With that being said I recommend this work to average readers or collectors alike.
Beautiful artwork. This book is all about spells/curses. I do not practice such but it is int resting to look into a culture and their beliefs/ fears.

Or you can simply browse through the pages admiring the artwork and intricacy of this extraordinary language. Highly recommended.
I use to have this book. Now years later, I've once again added it to my collection of the mystical and ancient. It's not a story but a collection of things the Egyptians believed. Being part Greek ,who reigned for the last 300 years of its empire, Egypt has always fascinated me.
When I heard about this book, and got my hands on it. I loved it, it has the tomb writings, of the gods.
Terrible book as far as information, amazing as far as pictures and art..
I bought this for my daughter and she loves it.
