One of the new things I learned was the availability of free walking tours. It's almost like sharing travel stories with friends or fellow travelers, except you can log onto your Kindle and go directly to areas of interest. It also encourages you to go on line to check out more areas, such as restaurants... while watching Diners Drive ins and Dives....I was inspired to check on line....and sure enough we came up with a web site that lists all the restaurants they have reviewed!! by state, date aired, etc.The book is a good resource and we will be taking the Kindle with us to check on things as we go as well as using it to help with our travel plans. It is also a place where you can review (or check out) cruises and tours. We have done several of the same cruises and visited some of the same areas. Reading Jeff''s reviews and looking at his pictures helps us relive some of our travel experiences, as well as giving us incentive to go back to some areas to see the things we missed. We always learn something new when we share travel stories and this book is all about sharing travel tips and ideas.....then take another trip!!! LIFE IS GOOD.....get out and explore! just remember to take your Kindle with you.Thank you Jeff and Joy for sharing all this great info.
This is the first travel book where the writer travels just like I and my wife do. We have done some of the same things he describes, such as taking the high speed train from the city near the cruise port for Beijing rather than the typical ship's shore excursion or a 3-hour taxi ride. Since I have experienced exactly what he has in some of the cities and countries he describes, that gives him a lot of credibility when he describes places or experiences that I have yet to try. In summary, this is the most practical, up to date travel guide I have read and I highly recommend it.

This is at least three good books in one. How best to travel - a guide to planes, boats, and rentals; Where to travel - ideas for your "bucket list" trips and how to best enjoy them; and the logistics of travel - everything from luggage, packing, lists, shopping deals, passports and more. I'll keep referring to Jeff's ideas for a long time to come.
Jeff has written an excellent, comprehensive book on travel to help everyone. Whether someone is traveling for months on end or a short jaunt across the pond, there is something in this book to read. I've traveled with Jeff and know first hand the work he does in planning trips. He is the most thorough person I know, leaving nothing to chance. I love reading about the places I'm going, looking at other places to see if I want to go, and of course, checking out the intro sections to see what I've forgotten or never thought of in the getting ready stages. Looking forward to the next chapters as he takes to the road again.
I bought this book to use during a cruise throughout Asia, Australia and the South Pacific. It was a great resource, particularly if you want to do independent travel (instead of the overly expensive and limited cruise line excursions). The author keeps it updated and tells you how you can enjoy each location. Well worth the price -- it paid for itself the first time I used it!
