Review
"With innovative ideas and careful attention to detail, this book delivers exactly what the cover promises, inspired designs not only for the rigid heddle loom but with drafts included, shaft weavers as well. Sidebars provide all manner of useful information so be sure to watch for them. From dressing the loom to fulling, beginners will find everything they need to get started weaving with confidence and as their skills develop, provide challenging new ideas to try. Without a doubt, this is one of the better beginner weaving books available." --Monsters and Critics"Both brand new and experienced weavers will not be able to wait to try them all out!" --Kick Ass Book Reviews"Get started...you will have gifts for everyone." --Hartford Knitting Examiner"The projects are much more sophisticated than any I've seen for this type of loom and the use of color and texture is fabulous. This book can teach a beginner how to make a scarf, but more importantly, the wonderful fabric creations inspire one to go beyond scarf-making. The authors also teach techniques such as felting, fringe twisting, pom-pom making, fulling, dying--even a step-by-step instruction how to deconstruct a sweater to re-purpose the yarn." --Knit and Travel

Where to begin. There is just so much good in this book. First of all, all but five of the scarves in this book can be woven on a ten inch loom. Those five you can reduce in width and still have great scarves. I would recommend you get a five dent rigid heddle reed. Each scarf was superb instructions. Each sidebar has great information and pictures to help you along. This is a very thorough book. Having said that, Woven Scarves has a lot of techniques in it that will keep you going nearly forever. I cannot wait to try the Steampunk Scarf, which features discharge dyeing, and the cover scarf (Felt Resist Bananagram Scarf) is intriguing. I could go on and on, but really, I just want to warp my loom and start. This is one great book I highly recommend.
Unlike knitting and crochet, there are not tons of books available featuring rigid heddle weave designs. This book offers a number of attractive designs that can be woven as the pattern states or can be easily modified for personal expression.
This is a book of "scarves", yes, but it is really a book of FABRICS. Great advice on yarn choice, handling finished fabrics, and different techniques for creating stylish accessories. As a yarn hoarder, just looking at the pictures gave me ideas of things to do with my own stash.Full of good clear photos and directions.
What I don't need is a book of scarf patterns. What I do need and want is a book that shows me inspiring fabrics that I can make on my rigid heddle loom. I probably won't use any of the scarf patterns-I know how to make a scarf. But the fabrics that are in this book are fabulous! Each scarf is a fabric sample and the book makes me want to run to my loom. The pictures of the fabrics (I refuse to call them scarves) are great to look at as I can see how the fabric drapes on the wearer. There are close ups of the yarns and fabrics so that I can see how they were woven. The close ups also show me the physical properties of the yarn so that I can substitute if I want to.If you are a "Blind Follower" ( Elizabeth Zimmermann) you will be able to blindly follow all the patterns you want and finish many fantastic scarves. The book covers off loom fiber work as well and shows how to felt and discharge color from your fabric. The book showcased yarns that I hadn't thought or hesitated to use in a whole fabric and I got a kick of surprise when I saw them and look forward to using them in the future.Another wonderful book from Interweave Press!
An excellent book all around! The projects are sophisticated and very wearable. Photography is inspiring. Instructions are clear. Lots of techniques are singled out for special emphasis, so it's a teaching workshop as well as a project book. Because of the quality of the fabric design, these can be considered useful samples for all kinds of wearables. AND... That's not all you get! The book itself is simply beautiful. I sense a weaving renaissance in the offing and fully believe that this book will help kick it off.
As a beginner to weaving, I must say this book is perfect way to start out in pursuing this craft. The designs are attractive and inspirational. Directions are super clear and beautifully illustrated. Photography is great! My small (ashford simpleit) rigid heddle loom is primarily geared toward scarves (8"").This book will keep me busy creating for quite some time.Til it's time to upgrade!
This is an excellent book for ideas and patterns to use on your rigid heddle loom. The scarves were all woven on either a 10 or 15 inch Cricket loom, which makes the patterns usuable for just about all loom sizes. I think this is a must have book for owners of rigid heddle looms.
This rigid heddle weaving book has many nice patterns for the rigid heddle loom. It's a gem of a find. I'm so glad I bought it.
